|intro =One of the most powerful heroes in [[Astro City]]'s history, though his time there wasn't very long.
|history = The entity that became the super-human Atomicus was formed in the Atomic Research Lab at [[Fort Kanigher]] in April of 1961. His first act of heroism was to rescue Dr. Vasily Petrov, a Soviet defector. (Soviet agents were attempting to return Dr. Petrov to Russia.) The hero was dubbed Atomicus by [[Elliot Mills]], a reporter for the Astro City Rocket, on April 7th, 1961.

There were many thoughts as to how he came into being; one thought was that he was a disembodied alien intelligence, who was trapped by the reactor energies, which drew him into human form. While others speculated that he was an air force pilot thought vaporized in an atomic test and reborn through atomic power. Some just thought he might be an ancient spirit brought back to life.

Atomicus' alter ego, Adam Peterson, started working for the staff of Astro City's mayor, [[Mayor Morton|Morton]] (first name unknown), shortly thereafter. Also working for the staff was [[Irene Merryweather-Cronin|Irene Merryweather]], a mayoral aide. Atomicus and Merryweather were known to be a couple before Peterson's appearance. At the time, it was still not known that Peterson was Atomicus. Meriwether soon suspected the connection, however, and went about mercilessly attempting to prove that Peterson and Atomicus were one in the same. When she finally succeeded, the furious Atomicus left the Earth, never to be seen again.

* In addition to flight and super strength, Atomicus has the ability to create "atomic duplicates." That infers a mental mechanism for manipulating mass at the atomic level. The atomic duplicates are completly identical copies of himself, include his powers. In essence, they are practically indistinguishable from the genuine Atomicus.

* Atomicus' powers are nuclear based. They can be weakened if his link to nuclear energy is diminished or absorbed. 

In his Adam Peterson disguise, he wears the Atomicus costume underneath his clothes, but in a different form, flatter and simplified. He transforms it into the regular costume through some application of his powers.

|intro = It was early 1984 when the Pale Horseman first appeared in Astro City. Draped in his tattered cloak, astride his skeletal horse, he rode on fire. A ghostly hunter of those individuals who violated his sensibilities of society's laws and rules. This could be anyone, committing any crime. The scope of his vengeful wrath ran the gamut from hardened killers to thoughtless jaywalkers. All types of violators numbered among his victims. He would approach his prey, his skinless steed galloping upon the very air, and with supernatural abilities, wither him, her or them, to a shrivelled, bony mass.

During his time on this world, no one in Astro City, the criminal and the law-abiding alike, felt safe.
|history = The Pale Horseman burst onto the scene in 1984 and no law-breaker was safe from the top super villains to the petty child thieves. He incinerated them all. He was about to do so to [[Otter]], [[Mister Toad]] and [[Owl]] one evening before [[Street Angel]] intervened leading the Horseman away. The Street Angel had previously escaped him, but on this night he would meet his fate like all of the criminals.

But at the same time, the Pale Horseman felt something tapping into his power, which the [[Silver Agent]] revealed was the rip in reality opened by the [[Point Man]] during the Rise of [[Kerresh the Devastator]]. [[Lord Sovereign]] was the one attempting to raid that power source. The two beings came into contact and fought. It appeared both were slightly weakened and trying to go, but the Agent managed to shut machines that powered Sovereign down and closed the rift, blinking both beings out of this world. A group of cosmic heroes active during the 1970s. They were a team of ten human astronauts sent to establish a base on the moon. During the trip, they were tapped into by aliens and transformed to become their emissaries back on Earth. Alongside the alien known as "[[L.G.M.]]," they worked to fulfill their new mission.

The Apollo Eleven were later wanted for crimes unknown and had to operate while on the run from the law.

|history =Originally a team of human astronauts sent to the moon to establish an international station, Earth's first moon base. Instead, while moonside, they made contact with extraterrestrials who transformed their physiologies and retrained them as emissaries to represent them on Earth. The Apollo Eleven became wanted criminals after escaping from a Federal Research Facility and operated while on the run from the law from 1972-1974.

In 1972, were part of a celestial convergence with an [[Omni-Brain]]. In 1976 saved Australia from the [[Golden Horde]].

The Apollo Eleven had been charged a task by an alien collective known as the [[Continuum]]: to guide and prepare humanity to join the wider community of extraterrestrial civilizations. The Continuum communicates with the ex-astronauts via its agent, the cosmic being called [[Xosmos]].
They also are able to call upon [[The Incarnate]], which of the members have a piece and are able to call upon any of the Incarnate's personalities.

LGM, a genuine alien and not a member of the ten-person moon group, was placed on the team to serve as an observer for Xosmos and the Continuum.

In 1982, they were captured by [[Pyramid]] in an attempt by the group to gain The Incarante's power, which unleashed the destructive personality of Kerresh the Devastator. In the aftermath of the battle, the group had lost its powers and were returned to human form. L.G.M.'s fate was unknown.

Kahoutek and Aquarina are a couple. As are Arthro and Gas Giant, though their relationship is complicated by the latter's incorporeal state.

Kurt Busiek considered "Saturn Five" as an alternate name for the group, as it would require fewer members, but Alex Ross convinced him that "Apollo Eleven" was more specifically tied to the time period.

Physically, the members of the team seem to be based either on different popular conceptions of what aliens look like (Greys, little green men, etc.) or on cosmological phenomena (black holes, comets, etc.) Kahoutek's name is a reference to the real-life Comet Kohoutek (spelled with an o as the first vowel).
