American Chibi is fairly new on the scene, and so far we don't know much about her. She acts like an overly exuberant, giddy teenager, but we don't even know if she's human.

  • In a U.S.A. Today interview, creator Kurt Busiek mentions that American Chibi was inspired by Scott McCloud's Japanese chibi drawing of himself.
  • "Chibi" is a Japanese slang word for a short person. It has morphed into use to also denote a style of drawing that contorts body proportions to resemble those of a young child, only even further exaggerated, especially the head.
