She acts like an overly exuberant, giddy teenager, but we don't even know if she's human. In the Summer of 2013, she thwarted the Iron Legion during their attempt to steal a Roman amphora whose patterns were secretly encoded with alien technology. That same day, she was the first Astro City hero to notice Telseth's doorway appearing on the banks of the Gaines River. She promptly tried to charge through the door, albeit unsuccessfully. Today interview, creator Kurt Busiek mentions that American Chibi was inspired by Scott McCloud's Japanese chibi drawing of himself. "Chibi" is a Japanese slang word for a short person. It has morphed into use to also denote a style of drawing that contorts body proportions to resemble those of a young child, only even further exaggerated, especially the head.
